Box office blog: Indy strikes it rich
Big surprise! OK, not really. "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," the week's only new wide release, scored a gigantic opening over the long Memorial Day weekend. The long-awaited adventure sequel racked up $151.1 million Thursday through Monday, which includes $101 for the standard Friday-Sunday weekend run and $25.1 million on its opening day last Thursday. (You math majors out there know that means Indy earned another $25 million Monday.) The five-day tally is the fifth highest of all time, and the $101 million is the tenth biggest opening of all time. (Of course, "Iron Man," which didn't arrive with 19 years of anticipation, brought in $98.6 million in its first three days only a few weeks ago.)
What did you think of "Crystal Skull"? Can it maintain its box office reign next weekend against "Sex and the City"?
